Prices of private examinations in Croatia have never been systematically collected anywhere; every clinic publishes its own price list, and many do not publish one at all. On Prvi termin we have gathered more than 1,300 prices from the publicly published price lists of private clinics across Croatia. These are the typical ranges (20th to 80th percentile, i.e. excluding extremely cheap and expensive offers), as of October 2026.

Specialist examinations

ExaminationTypical price
Cardiology examination75 – 100 €
Dermatology examination70 – 100 €
Gynaecology examination with ultrasound65 – 120 €
Ophthalmology examination70 – 90 €
Health check-up (package)110 – 260 €

A specialist examination costs between 70 and 110 € in most cities. Zagreb and Split are generally somewhat more expensive than Osijek, Varaždin or Slavonski Brod. An ultrasound during the examination is often included in the price at cardiologists and gynaecologists, but not always: ask before booking.

Diagnostics: ultrasound, MRI, CT, endoscopy

ExaminationTypical price
Abdominal ultrasound60 – 80 €
Knee MRI (one joint)95 – 245 €
Brain CT scanaround 160 €
Gastroscopy130 – 165 €
Colonoscopy200 – 250 €
Laboratory (basic panel)10 – 20 €

For MRI and CT scans a large part of the price is the machine: clinics with newer scanners (3 Tesla) charge more. Contrast is charged extra, usually 40 to 80 €. For an endoscopy, ask whether sedation is included.

Dentistry

ProcedureTypical price
Dental implant (without crown)550 – 800 €
Crown (zirconia/metal-ceramic)230 – 320 €
Physiotherapy (per session)30 – 60 €

With implants, pay attention to what is included: the implant itself, the abutment and the crown are often charged separately, so a „550 € implant“ can end up costing 900 to 1,200 €. Reputable clinics provide a written cost estimate after an examination and X-ray.

Why prices differ so much

  • City: rents and salaries in Zagreb and on the coast are higher than in Slavonia.
  • Equipment and doctor: newer machines and subspecialists cost more.
  • What is included: ultrasound, contrast, sedation, report on CD, follow-up examination.
  • Promotions: many clinics offer discounts off-season or for examination packages; promotional prices are not included in our ranges.

How to pay less

  • Compare prices by city on the Prices page: for an MRI the difference between cities can reach 100 €.
  • Waiting more than 90 days in the public system? An MRI, CT scan or ultrasound may be free at a contracted private clinic.
  • Do you have additional private insurance through your employer? Check its clinic network; on Prvi termin, filter by your insurance.
  • Ask for a package price (examination + ultrasound + laboratory) instead of individual items.

How the prices were collected

All prices come from the price lists that clinics publish on their own websites, with the source cited on each profile. We show regular prices, not promotional ones. Price lists change, so the exact price for your appointment is always confirmed by the clinic. Clinics can claim their profile and update their prices themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Is a private examination cheaper if I have a referral?
A referral does not reduce the private price. It is valid only at clinics with an HZZO contract for that service; in that case HZZO, the national health insurance fund, pays for the examination and you pay at most a co-payment.
Can I get an invoice for a private examination?
Yes, every clinic issues an invoice. You may need it for your additional insurance, your employer or a tax deduction if you are entitled to one.
Why does a clinic have no price on Prvi termin?
The clinic does not publish a price list on its website. In that case we show „price on request“ and the typical range for Croatia. Clinics can enter their prices themselves after claiming their profile.

General information, not medical advice. In an emergency call 112. Prices and rules may change; the clinic and HZZO give binding information.
