What is it and when is it done?
Brain MRI shows brain tissue and vessels in the greatest detail. Done for persistent headaches, dizziness, epilepsy, suspected multiple sclerosis, after a stroke or for vision and hearing changes.
How long does it take?
20–40 minutes, up to 50 with contrast.
How do I prepare?
No special preparation. For contrast the clinic may ask for a creatinine test. Report pregnancy, allergies, metal and pacemaker.
What happens afterwards?
Report in 1–3 working days, same day if urgent. Take it to a neurologist.
